K Care Tilt-in-Space Shower Commode

A tilt-in-space commode customised for a young woman with cerebral palsy, designed to provide full postural support and safer carer access during showering.

The client had previously used standard off-the-shelf commodes, which offered minimal postural support. This model allows for full integration of customised seating components—improving alignment, comfort, and carer access.

CUSTOMISATIONS:

This commode features a custom seat cushion, DLT backrest, extended headrest, and padded arm and footrests—all designed and built by Motion Wheelchairs.

The seat cushion has a bridged front for unobstructed carer access while preventing the client’s legs from slipping through. It also incorporates adduction support and a left hip guide to assist with alignment.

The custom DLT (Deep Lower Thoracic) backrest includes enhanced padding with an internal stiffener to assist with trunk posture.

The headrest is extended on the right to prevent the client’s head from slipping beneath the pad.

Both footrests are padded and fully adjustable for height and angle.

This configuration delivers targeted support in a setting where traditional commodes fall short.
